During the Munich auto show in September 2021, the renowned automaker Porsche presented a concept of an electric race car. It is thought this cars will form the basis of a zero-emission one-make race series.

Electric Porsche 718 is the output of the automaker’s Mission R concept. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume explained about this car in 2018. This car was about the size of a 718 Cayman which was a candidate for going the electric route.

The electric 718 is based on the Mission R concept and it is most likely coming in 2024 as a 2025 model. The Cayman coupe and Boxster convertible body styles will also be available with the electric 718. It will also offer a soft-top roof.

This electric car will continue to be offered rear-wheel drive facilities. Users also can apply dual-motor all-wheel drive. All these features must be a perfect combination of this futuristic vehicle. When Porsche started the Mission R concept, a dual-motor system usually delivered 670 hp in race mode. Then it could be increased up to 1,073 hp for brief qualifying runs.

However, when you compare based on performance, the electric 718 will be stepping on the toes of the 911. Porsche wanted to differentiate these two cars in some basic points like internal combustion power. As long as regulations allow 911 will retain internal-combustion power which is missing in 718. In the Mission R concept, there was an 80-kilowatt-hour battery. But now the minimum range would be 250 miles.

The electric 718 might be the first recipient of the Sportscar Platform Electric (SPE) modular EV platform. A Volkswagen Group investor presentation held in 2018 also explained the context. Now it is clear that a dedicated EV platform is coming to reality.

Alongside, the electric version Porsche is planning to sell an internal combustion engine option for the next 718. The increasing demand for EVs in the premium sector is rising day by day. This hype has accelerated the growth of many automotive multinationals.
